What socks should I wear with these shoes?
Birks, boat shoes …… All have socks to wear.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had the experience of laying out an outfit, putting it on (and then crawling into bed or a chair to admire it in all its glory), only to focus on – my feet. The shoes definitely match what’s happening, but are the socks really what I want? Suddenly, I was suspicious of the length, color, and knit workmanship of the socks. Did they go well with the shoes? And, especially at this time of year in the Northeast, I had to wonder if I was really comfortable wearing them.
A good friend who has been a stylist for many years offered some wise advice, and a few of the pairings-the must-have Birkenstocks, boat shoes, loafers, and Mary Janes-absolutely satisfy all of these requirements.

Be Sporty: Sailor Socks with Loafers
This loafers/faux jacket combo is chic if you want an effortlessly dapper, go-anywhere look, but easy to achieve when paired with a hoodie and sailor athletic socks. While not everyone will see you in a striped jacket, a classic tube jacket shows off your confidence and will undoubtedly keep you looking sharp for holiday shopping, a matinee movie or a small gathering with friends. And then there are the Louboutins – adding a bit of sophistication and elegance to an otherwise fun look.

Flirting idea: knee-high socks with heels
All in all, this is a perfect date night outfit – whether you’re dating a friend or a new love interest. A monochromatic look makes for a classier, neater look. However, feminine (and fun) heels and over-the-knee socks paired with subtle layering give a hint of flirtation.

“Proportion and balance are key when it comes to matching the right socks to your shoes. The placement of the sock on the leg should complement the nature of the shoe – for example, if you’re wearing Birkenstock clogs, you should consider socks that are just below the knee in length. But for a true homage to the Boston shoe, a classic thick sock is its best friend.”

A Day in the Morning: Loose Knit Crew Socks with BIRKENSTOCK Clogs
Comfort doesn’t have to be limited to the couch (or coach seat). While this look is perfect for traveling, it can take you from morning to night and almost anywhere you want to spend any amount of time. Out running errands, walking the dog, binge watching a new show …… Boston Birkenstock It’s no surprise that clogs are paired with thick socks because – well – there’s no reason to tamper with a classic. The cozy and spacious layering on top offers versatility, and here again, we’re big on tonal dressing to give it a sense of purpose and (a little, but too much) sophistication.
