Come From Away Rich and Famous is one of my favorite movies and the inspiration for this series. I’ve always fantasized about that scene in the garden after a rainy day, and there’s an innocence about Changs, the gardener, that has inspired this entire collection in its sheer beauty. We take care of our closet like he does his garden, meticulously caring for it and letting it bloom.

This collection is an exploration of the beauty of the transient, that one elusive moment when everything becomes clear and everything in the garden is perfect. It consists of pieces that I cherish in the moment, that I have carefully nurtured in my creative process, and that I hope the Herrera women, when they incorporate them into their closets, will see them as treasures in the same way that they plant new seeds in their gardens.
Floral sequin jacquard fabrics were cut with precision to create straight jumpsuits, and perfect pencil skirts for the show. Glittering tulip motifs embroidered with gold thread adorned exaggerated jackets and dresses. Cornflower blue came to life in perfect shades of light and shadow on straight skirts with countless pleats and delicate lace suits. Each silk rose is handmade piece by piece and blooms on the hips of peplum dresses and on dramatic corset bodices.
The richness of color in this collection was inspired by one of my favorite pieces in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Sonia Delaunay’s Rhythm Color painting. The harmonious rhythm between the colors in this work, like the colors intertwined in the garden, is what I wanted to present in this collection.
